Iliana was born in Athens, Greece. She attended Geitonas School until 2017, before continuing her education at the 2nd Lyceum of Voula, from which she graduated with honors in 2019.
In 2020, Iliana began her medical studies at Sofia University St. Kliment Ohridski, where she is currently a fifth-year medical student, with her graduation anticipated in December 2026. She has developed a strong interest in pediatrics, a field she is eager to pursue in the future.
Since her second year of medical school, Iliana has actively sought out clinical experience through internships and observerships at hospitals across Greece and the UK. Notably, she completed an observership in neonatology at Heartlands University Hospitals Birmingham NHS Trust in 2023 and, more recently, one in gastroenterology at Queen Elizabeth Hospital Birmingham NHS Trust in 2024.
Iliana aspires to further her medical career in the USA and is preparing for the USMLE Step 1 exam as she works toward securing a residency position. In addition to her clinical pursuits, she has been involved in research since her third year of medical school, leading to two published works, with several more in progress. She is also contributing to the field of neuroscience as a researcher at the Institute of Neurobiology in Sofia, Bulgaria.
Iliana is a member of several prestigious medical organizations, including the American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP), the American College of Surgeons (ACS), and the American College of Physicians (ACP). She also holds memberships in the Society of American Gastrointestinal and Endoscopic Surgeons (SAGES), where she actively serves on both the Pediatrics and Membership Committees, as well as the European Society for Medical Oncology (ESMO) and the World Medical Association (WMA).
Fluent in both Greek and English, and elementary in Bulgarian, Iliana remains committed to broadening her knowledge and experiences in the medical field with a passion for contributing to patient care and advancing her medical and research expertise.
